A leader is someone expected to motivate a group to fulfill a task successfully. A leader should be able to direct the members of the group into the right direction and guide the members towards maximum productivity. The performance of a leader contributes greatly to the end output of a group. There is much at stake at being a leader. These are only some of the reasons why being one is hard. In line with the authority and power given are the responsibilities. There are many ways on becoming a successful leader. Some of them lie on the leadership theories.

Leadership Theories – Which Are The Best?

There are many leadership theories. However, three of the most popular leadership theories are the autocratic, democratic and the laissez faire leadership. In autocratic leadership, it is stated that a leader is the authority in the group. She is like a dictator. She is not very open to suggestions. She is strict in implementing the rules and as much as possible, wants to follow the steps firmly. Unlike the authoritative leader who uses autocratic leadership, a leader who follows the laissez faire leadership is generally submissive and passive. This type of leader can be easily swayed by the members. She does not have a strong sense of authority. A good balance between the previous leadership theories is democratic leadership. A democratic leader is able to maintain authority without being too strict, but at the same time, she is able to listen to the needs of the members. A democratic leader is open-minded. Aside from being a good leader, she is a good follower as well.

There are other leadership theories that people with authority use. Merely following these theories, however, is not enough to say that you are a leader. A leader has to prove that she is worthy of the title and she should be able to give good results that will benefit the group.
